Dear YSL will second me.
Influenced by my mother, I always keep a carefully selected wardrobe, and resist all the time any seasonal twists - though they sometimes look so so tasty to me for that moment, and I will only walk home with them when I have an extraordinarily generous budget. Unfortunately more often I only opt for the classic pieces that builds my style effortlessly. Time will reveal how versatile the seemingly neutral designs really are. I believe most of fellow fashion addicts would choose the same for the must-have items as I do. Here is my version, a gather-together of my Instagram posts but also a concise buying list for beginner fashion lovers.
Go for the Birkin whenever being offered one. You can't go wrong with it in the correct size. It is also the best investment Wall Street admitted defeat to: the 25-year return on a Birkin outperformed any S&P 500 stocks!
2. NEUTRAL BAGS
In black and camel, acquire as much as possible bags in box leather, lambskin or patent. Sometimes we are just so unconscious that these are our most frequently-used bags all the time, until one day I have found so many scratches on my Celine classic box!
3. Chanel Jackets
Or any similar tweed equivalent. It is ultimately feminine, and goes with virtually all outfits. Make sure that the classic black and white jackets are already residing in your closet before moving to the fancier tweeds. I drool over the colorful fabric of each season, but I know I will wear the classics much more often, so I go for the latter faced with my budget.
4. Pearl Strands
At least a choker and a super long multi-way strand. The truth is that, whatever the quality of pearls (freshwater or Akoya, real or glass), it instantly adds glamor to women. From Audrey Hepburn to Coco's costume jewelry, it is pearl that defined tres chic.
5. TRANS-SEASONAL COAT and A Fedora Hat
A coat and hat to grab and go, for most of the times in a year. I prefer belted coats that adds flare, and Maison Michel's Virginie design, that fits the shape of my face.
